Since 1994, the Institute On Governance (IOG) has been offering courses for public sector policy makers. Over 6000 federal employees have taken our courses and consistently rate them highly. In fact, many former participants are now directing their staff and colleagues to IOG training courses. Research-based and designed to engage participants through active learning, IOG learning programs include a variety of expert speakers,
lively discussions, and innovative interactive techniques. We offer a selection of highly rated workshops,
and provide customized services such as course development and meeting design.
In addition, we act as a neutral convenor and facilitator of events and networks.

Courses on Special RequestIn addition to our scheduled courses, the IOG Learning Centre delivers courses in English or French for departments or organizations anywhere in Canada, on request. We can customize any of our regularly scheduled courses for your group and offer tailored training on the following topics:
Course DevelopmentThe IOG develops and delivers specialized workshops to address the values and goals of the organization, as well as the needs of junior and senior staff. Experienced in how adults learn and knowledgeable in the complex inner workings of government and civil society, we use a variety of tools and activities to get the message across. Timely, practical, and of high quality, our courses are based on the specific approach we think will work best for both the client and the workshop participant.Our services include: moderation and facilitation; content and methodology design; needs analysis; research; case studies; pilot and train-the- trainer programs; and logistics support.
Meeting Design and FacilitationThe IOG designs and facilitates meetings to help organizations and multiple stakeholders work towards practical solutions to their strategic and operational issues. Drawing on our governance expertise and our experience in working across sectors and jurisdictions, the IOG’s skilled team of facilitators provide clients with a neutral voice and a neutral arena to enable diverse or competing interests to dialogue and address difficult problems, including strategic and operational planning and program reviews.Our services include: facilitation; development of agenda and meeting processes; logistics support; and summary reports.
Convening of ForumsOur forums, including roundtable and seminar series, provide a neutral space for leaders and experts from inside and outside government to share and develop thinking around an important topic. Guest speakers from Canada and overseas lead the sessions and introduce current research and trends. The IOG also develops forums at the request of organizations or departments – singly or in groups – to provide an informal platform for senior management to deal with new mandates, or complex, cross-cutting issues.Our services include: scoping of a topic or theme; research analysis and preparation of discussion papers; event design; facilitation; logistics support; and summary reports.
Knowledge ManagementAs experienced employees retire at an unprecedented rate across Canada, new employees face increasing pressures to get up to speed faster. To help senior managers address this two-fold challenge, the IOG has designed the Memory Stick Program, a knowledge management tool that enables organizations to retain and utilize important corporate memory. With multiple web links to key information sources, this systematically developed tool will prove invaluable to current and future employees.More Info |
